How does wi-fi access QR work?
A Wi-Fi QR code carries the network name (SSID), security type and optionally a password. Compatible phone cameras can recognize the standard Wi-Fi payload and offer to join that network. Device behavior varies, and some older phones may not support automatic joining.
How to make your QR code
- Enter the exact Wi-Fi network name as shown on your router.
- Choose WPA/WPA2/WPA3, WEP, or Open network and enter the password if needed.
- Export the QR code and test it on a phone before placing it in a guest area.
Brand your QR code with a logo
Upload your own company logo and choose a circular badge inside the QR, a larger logo beside the code, or both. Choose the center badge shape (white circle or rounded square) and spacing. The QR squares behind the logo are left empty. High error correction helps, but scan-test before printing.
Tips for reliable scanning
- Keep the password private: anyone who can scan the code can obtain or use it.
- Choose the Open network option only for a network with no password.
- If the network name is hidden, enable Hidden network in the form.
Common questions
Does the QR code connect automatically?
Many recent phones show a join prompt after scanning. Not every device supports Wi-Fi QR codes.
Is my Wi-Fi password sent to your server?
No. Generation happens entirely in your browser. The password is embedded in the downloadable QR image, so share it responsibly.
Can I use this for a business guest network?
Yes, but use a dedicated guest network if your router supports it, and test scanning on your devices.
